In the Realm of Water lilies – one-day school excursion

In recent years the popularity of Dragoman marsh and Chepan Mountain as a place for recreation, hiking, photo tourism and surveillance of wild nature has grown.

There is hardly anyone to be disappointed by the impressive biodiversity of the region. There is growing the highest grass of the earth, the smallest flowering plant on the planet, insectivorous plants, the beautiful water lilies and many other amazing representatives of the Bulgarian flora. Fauna adapted to aquatic life is no less impressive: playful otters, predatory terrapins, secretive bitterns, loud-voiced warblers, tree frogs and many others. Only the birds are numbering over 215 species! Chepan mountain is like an outdoor botanical garden – the limestone ridges are rich in Balkan and Bulgarian endemic  species.
